Examinations




In UK schools there are now many different types of examinations, qualifications and exam boards that leave many people confused. The main examination boards include Edexcel, OCR, AQA and the vocational City & Guilds. Here is a quick tour of the major examination boards and examinations to help you get started. AQA
The Assessment & Qualifications Alliance - AEB/SEG, NEAB, City & Guilds. AQA provides a wide range of examinations for GCSE, AS & A levels, GNVQ, NVQs and other qualifications throughout UK and is used by many schools. As the largest examination board in the UK, AQA provides excellent support for both teachers and parents and students for examinations, with an excellent website full of resources and examination support. Parents can also get help and advice along with a comprehensive examinations timetable.

City & Guilds
Operating in over 8500 centres throughout the UK, City & Guilds examinations board are certainly the largest providers of vocational qualifications. City & Guilds provide an extensive range of qualifications including Hair Dressing, Retail and many different trades for the construction industry. The City & Guilds website is a superb resource for people looking to enhance their careers with an applicable and respected qualification. Employers are increasingly supportive of City & Guilds examinations and qualifications and are very supportive of their employees studying for them.

Edexcel
Providing highly regarded qualifications internationally, Edexcel offers both a range of academic and vocational qualifications. The Edexcel website provides excellent support for all professionals and students in regards to their qualifications, with areas to view resources and study aids. Edexcel have also developed a range of publications to help students with their revision and to perpare them for the examinations period. All are available through the Edexcel website.

OCR
Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR) is a leading UK awarding body, committed to providing qualifications that engage learners of all ages at school, college, in work or through part-time learning programmes to achieve their full potential. OCR offer a wide range of General and Vocational qualifications that equip learners with the knowledge and skills they need for their future. OCR work with a range of education providers including schools, colleges, workplaces and other institutions in the public and private sector with examinations opportunities and qualifications. The OCR website hosts a range of supportive tools for students and teachers, including revision help, past examinations papers and examinations timetables.
