Once you have done all of your revision, used revision guides for all of your subjects and even had a home tutor help you with your most difficult subject, it is time to sit the actual exam. This can be a point that terrifies most people, but it really doesn’t have to. Preparing to actually sit your exam and answer questions by following these exam tips will help you to work through the paper question by question and enable you to use every bit of important information you can. Follow these exam tips and you will be one your way to success.
Exam Tips 1 Don’t cram with last minute revision. The night before your exams should be left for relaxation. Many people find that if they try to revise intensely just before an exam they make themselves much more nervous.
Exam Tips 2 Relax! Before your exams it is essential to take time to relax. Being calm as you enter the examinations hall will help to ensure that you read the paper properly and not make mistakes.
Exam Tips 3 Be equipt! Make sure you take everything you might need into an exam. Pens, pencils, a rubber and ruler are always needed. Some exams may also need a calculator, so don't forget it. Make sure it works before your examinations!
Exam Tips 4 READ! Take time to read the exam paper from cover to cover before you start answering any questions. Some papers will ask you to answer only a few questions so it is important that you choose the ones that you can answer more fully to help you gain more marks.
Exam Tips 5 Use your time wisely. The best way to approach an exam paper is to divide up your time for each set of questions. By doing this you can make sure that you don’t over run on one question and run out of time to finish the paper. Don’t forget that you can also answer the questions in any order as long as you clearly label which answer is for which question. By doing this you can answer the ones that your are more confident of first to make sure you don’t miss out on points because you ran out of time. Check the time throughout the exam to make sure that you are on track, but don’t clock watch!
Exam Tips 6 Plan your answer. For each question, carefully think about what the question is asking. It is very easy to run away with yourself when answering a question so make sure that you don’t waste time explaining something that you don’t need to. Write a plan for your answer and give it a structure similar to an essay with a beginning, middle and end. Use your plan to make sure that you address every point in the question.
Exam Tips 7 Get every mark you can! Every examination, no matter which subject, will award marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar. Check these throughout the paper and then double check at the end. by making sure that your answers are easy to read the examiner will be able to mark the paper easier and will understand your discussion better.
Most Importantly – BREATHE! Keep calm during the exam, follow these tips and you will be able to clearly answer the questions on the paper. By getting anxious you will waste valuable time and lose focus.
